New York City is full of hustle and bustle and there is a reason why it is known as the city that never sleeps. There is something for everyone. Just like visiting Las Vegas, which we covered in our previous post, there is no shortage of things to do in New York City. For a first time visitor, here are 4 places that we recommend:

Visit Times Square: Times Square is a must see for everyone and not just on New Year’s Eve. In addition to the bright lights, shops, restaurants – it is probably the best place to people watch. You can have your picture taken with cartoon characters, the Statue of Liberty and even the Naked Cowboy as he plays his guitar! Experience the melting pot as you run into people from every part of the world in that 5 block radius.
Central Park: At the other end of the spectrum is the peace at Central Park. This is the place to be to be one with nature in a serene and quiet setting in the 850 acre park, surrounded by glitzy high rises with envious balconies. There is so much located within the park, including the Central Park Zoo, Belvedere Castle and horse and carriage rides. This is a great area to enjoy some lunch from a street vendor and walk through nature.
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island: The Statue of Liberty is one of the most well known attractions in all of New York City. Ellis Island is where all of the immigrants stopped as they entered the United States and it is filled with history. The boat ride to the Statue of Liberty is amazing. As the boat gets closer to the island, you will be impressed at how large the Statue really is and as you pull farther away from Manhattan, you will get a panoramic view of its skyline. After the stop at the Statue, you can choose to stop at Ellis Island or you can stay on the boat and head back to the mainland.
World Trade Center: Everyone remembers where they were on the morning of September 11th and the World Trade Center Memorial and Museum is the place where you can pay your respects to those who lost their lives. The Memorial is free however there is a charge for the museum. Tickets for the museum may be purchased online in advance. A sobering moment for all visitors and its not uncommon to see visitors wiping off tears as they make their way through.
While New York is synonymous with fashion, as a visitor trying to find your way around, you will need balance comfort with fashion. There is a lot of walking involved in the city and will need a pair of comfortable shoes. Consider taking a pair of these comfortable foldable flats in your purse for times when your heels become too much to handle. As always in any big city, be smart, be safe and you will soon realize why they say – “New York New York, so nice they named it twice”
